Alice Baland's Life Solutions Center offers a variety of programs and groups year-round for individuals interested in eating disorders, emotional eating, weight management, and health/fitness/nutrition.

These programs assist attendees at various levels of motivation to gain knowledge, improve coping skills, build a support network, and discover solutions to life's problems and relationships. The stages covered in group or individual sessions include Pre-Contemplation, Contemplation, Action, and Maintenance. I use Prochaska's Stages of Change  to assess a client's current level of motivation. I use a thorough diet and lifestyle history and priority setting to determine goals for each group.  

Therefore, a Pre-Assessment Session is required prior to admission to one of the Special Groups. This one-time 45-minute session is only $75 for group members (regular price $150). 

Individual counseling is available for those who prefer it, or are not yet ready for a group.

New for This Year: Tele-Groups

The Weight Management and Eating Disorder (Beautiful You!) groups are available as Tele-Groups for those who cannot attend the on-site  sessions. Tele-Groups follow the same schedule as the on-site groups and you can start with any phase of the program. Each phase includes 12 weekly e-mail lessons and 12 one-hour Tele-Group sessions. Tele-Groups do not include hypnotherapy. When you register for a Tele-Group, I provide you with a dial-in telephone number which you call to join the group at the scheduled time and date. If your schedule causes you to miss a tele-group session, you can listen to an audio recording of each tele-group up to 72 hours after the scheduled session. Very convenient!

There is no refund for missed sessions, however, session notes and materials will be saved or sent to you. Please try to attend every session as they build on each other and you create a positive support network.

Each of the three 12-Week programs covers different aspects of weight management; no program repeats, so you are always learning something new.  This is a non-diet approach, especially helpful for those suffering from diet burnout or feeling stuck. Get unstuck!

Topics include nutritional, emotional, cultural, psychological, familial, physical and media aspects of achieving a healthy weight and lifestyle.

These three 12-week groups are for women with emotional, compulsive or disordered eating issues. Weight loss is not necessarily a priority at this point; however, dealing with the real issues, which lead to overeating, is a priority.

In weekly discussions you will learn how to:

  • improve your body image and weight messages
  • break the cycle of eating disorders and stress
  • find your personal way of eating for health
  • overcome exercise resistance, exercise addiction
  • take charge of cravings, compulsivity, addictions
  • note the influence of media/culture/family/ advertising/hormones
  • connect mind and body
  • overcome wounding
  • develop powerful healing messages
  • learn powerful coping skills
  • relax & nurture yourself
  • release critical voices
  • build strong relationships and a reliable support network
  • express emotions positively, honestly, directly
  • interpret your dreams; and so much more!
Look forward to many ways to heal your emotional, spiritual, and physical self. You may start anywhere in the cycle. 

Each series consists of new material and is only repeated yearly. So you can take a one-year course, with a summer break, and really work on healing your relationship with food, eating, weight, and health.

College Women's Eating Disorders Summer Group

Wednesdays. 7:00 - 8:30 pm. 6 Weeks
June 23, 30, July 7, 14, 21, 28, 2004. 

Sessions will include body image, self-esteem, expressive therapy, anger management, coping skills, mythology and folk tales, art and music therapy, cognitive skills, meal planning, nutrition, exercise resistance, exercise addiction, and so much more!
