In The Light Of The Moon: How Women Can Transform Their Relationships With
Food Through Myths, Metaphors & Storytelling
Johnston, Anita. (1996)
This book is a heavenly find to me! First
discovered and devoured in 2002, it is now the basis of many of my Eating
Disorder groups. I thrive on its' simplicity, honesty, myths, metaphors, and
truths, plus design for healing from disordered eating. The chapters
progress naturally from exploring the root of hunger, to feminine
characteristics, how the struggle begins, spiritual and emotional hunger vs.
physical, hunger as a metaphor, to feelings and relationships. It further
explores the types of power, nurturance, learning to listen to one's inner
voice, to what dreams mean, the cycles of a woman's body, to sexuality,
assertiveness, nourishment, journaling and more. The tales and myths help
anchor the learning safely in a permanent place of remembrance. I love this
book! And, I'm looking forward to hearing Anita speak with Francie White (my
beloved mentor) in Hawaii in September in a training and retreat for
professionals!
